How to make a small space work for you

Whether you like cosy living or you’re a fan of the minimalist look, space is one of those things we all crave but in the real world, it’s not something that all of us can afford.

There are always trade offs when it comes to purchasing a property whether we like it or not and whilst we’d all love separate spaces for each aspect of our living, it is not always feasable.

But that doesn’t mean that you can’t make a small space work for you.

Here are our top tips on making that happen.

Living room

This room is supposed to be for LIVING in - a space where you can relax, unwind and entertain; it’s the ultimate multipurpose room that allows for a wide range of activities.

Make sure your living room is the heart of your home and somewhere where you can undertake some serious living.

Dining area

If you don’t have enough space for a full scale dining room then that doesn’t mean you are destined to eat your dinner from a plastic tray in front of the TV.

If your goal is to ensure that you have a table that you can eat your meals at then you have a couple of options.

The kitchen - Turning a worktop in to a breakfast bar is one option.

You may have to get savvy with your furniture and look for space saving ideas such as fold away tables.

Your coffee table - If you can’t fit in a full scale table then eat like the Japanese and get yourself some comfy cushions. You can use your coffee table to double up as your dining table.

Think about a work space

If you work from home or you just want a dedicated workspace for your hobbies but you can’t justify a dedicated room then head to the living room.

Try not to set up in the corner of your bedroom as your workspace and your rest space should be kept separate.

Think about your sleeping area

If possible keep your bedroom sleep friendly, that means no work and if you can bear it, no TV.

Your bedroom should be a sacred place.

If you’re living in a studio then use curtains or even shelves to act as a partition.
